IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS
"PLYMSTOCK DEVELOPMENT CENTRE SESSION CHANGE OF DATE" Please note that the planned link-up session with Plymstock Development Centre scheduled for Saturday 3rd April has been re-arranged due to the Easter weekend meaning the school where the centre is based is shut. The new date will be Saturday 22nd May and the sessions will be open to u6, u7, u8 and u9 players only. The format for the new day will be a "World Cup Fever" festival where players will take part in skills coaching and then play in a friendly tournament representing the various countries taking part in World Cup 2010. It promises to be a fun day and more details will be available nearer the time.
HERE COME THE GIRLS...
Newton Town Football Club, with support from Devon FA and the South Dartmoor School Sports Partnership, are launching a new project to promote girls football to Primary School age children in the Newton Abbot area during the Summer Term.
The project, which has attracted funding from Sport England’s ‘Sports Unlimited’ scheme, will aim to build on a current county-wide initiative being run by Devon FA to increase the number of girls between the ages of 7 and 11 playing club football.
At present, any girls between those ages are expected to play mixed sex Mini Soccer, but as Newton Town Community Football Coach Chris Partridge explains, those arrangements do not suit everyone
“Although there are a few girls playing mixed-sex mini soccer in clubs such as Newton Town, the overall participation numbers at Under 11s and younger are still pretty low. There are lots of girls out there who are interested in playing football, but for some reason that is not translating into Primary School aged girls joining football clubs. We hope that by offering girls-only sessions for children in school years 3 to 6 we can create new opportunities for girls to enjoy being active and making new friends through playing football with other girls at Newton Town.”
As part of the project, Newton Town coaches will be running coaching sessions at local Primary schools, whilst the club is also starting a new weekly girls training session at their Coach Road base. The sessions will start on Wednesday 21st April and run every Wednesday evening throughout the Summer Term from 6pm to 7pm.
Any girls in school years 3 to 6 are welcome to come along and complete beginners are especially welcome. Players will need suitable footwear (trainers or football boots), shin guards and a drink. The first session is free and after that will cost just £1 per player. All coaches are minimum FA Level 1 qualified, CRB checked and trained in First Aid and Child Protection. Anyone wishing to attend can simply turn up on the day, while more information is also available through www.newtontownfc.co.uk or by contacting Chris Partridge on 07887 513 800
