The red team travelled down to Totnes and Dartington for their penultimate and last away game of the season. We started with Dan in goal, Callum, Liam and Nathan across the back, Alfie in the middle and Jake and Sam up front. Both teams started brightly and it really was end to end stuff for the opening few minutes. Liam ran off the pitch and was ill on the sideline just as the T& D striker ran into the open space that Liam had left to slot past Dan in goal 1-0! a disappointing start to a game which if won, could take us to 2nd in the table. The rest of the half followed a set pattern, with the T&D keeper kicking long, the Town defence dealing with the ball comfortably, working it out of defence and back to our strikers for the keeper to save well again. Half time. Joe came on for Alfie with Sam dropping back into the middle. Town started the second half as they had finished the first, constantly attacking, but were starting to get caught at the back with the bouncing ball causing them problems and great work from Nathan, Callum and the replacement left back Matt protected Dan well, but when asked, the Town keeper put in his best performance of the season to keep the T & D strikers at bay. This was another game where Jake could have scored a hatful but for the opposition keeper. It was the T&D keepers only mistake of the game which saw the Town equalise. The keeper couldn't hold Jake's ferocious shot and the striker followed the ball to tap past the outstretched fingers of the keeper. 1-1! The game finished in the way that it had carried out all day, with end to end football and both keepers saving well. 1-1 final score, another draw away from home this season, leaving us in 3rd in the table, with one to play. Man of the Match went unanimously to Dan, with 3 or 4 of the players speaking up in the post match team talk. In undoubtedly his strongest game this season he did everything right. The goal scored was impossible to save, and had Liam not been ill, I don't think we would have conceded at all, such was his prowess. Whether it was tipping the ball around the post at full stretch from a long range drive, or saving from a point blank shot 1 yard off the goal line, he was truly immense. mentions go to all other players, Nathan, Callum and Nathan played solidly all game, Joe and Alfie both played superbly, Sam had another blinding game and is making the Coaches decision to substitute him most games hard. Jake again could have scored lots if not for a superb opposition keeper. Well done boys |
