Despite the scoreline this was Town’s best display of the season, and on another day they may even have won this game. The opening stages were very even with Town playing some confident passing football while KM looked to use some of their speedy attackers to break whenever they had the ball.
Town enjoyed lots of possession, but could not quite turn this into goal scoring chances as KM’s defense did well to snuff out a series of promising attacks. As the half wore on the visitors showed more incisiveness in attack and some well taken goals left Town trailing 3-0 at half time.
In the second half Town regained their composure and again looked more than equal to the visitors creating two excellent chances. On both occasions it was a great cross from Harry Rogers that found an unmarked Alexander Pike at the back post but twice the Town striker just steered the ball the wrong side of the post.
KM came back into the game and a scramble in the Town box resulted in a fourth goal which gave the final scoreline a slightly flattering look. Before the final whistle there was still time for Town ‘keeper Jack Hingston to pull off a stunning save high to his left, and it is that sort of fighting spirit that will give the team great heart for the remainder of the season.
Town man of the match was given to Rory Fitzgerald for his best performance of the season as part of the 3-man defense that did so well to keep the opposition quite for much of the match. |
