NTFC U11 Reds traveled to KM this morning to try and finally get their season back on track after the weather cancellations over Christmas. We started with Dan in goal, the three regular defenders of Callum, Liam and Nathan across the back, Alfie in the middle and Jake and Joe up front. Town made heavy weather of the opening exchanges with superb ball posession but no cutting edge in front of the goal, with Jake being denied twice early on. Drama! Joe took a ball clean in the face and as Liam ran into the box, he was tripped, Penalty!. Joe came off with blood gushing from his nose with Sam coming on upfront with his brother. Alfie stepped up to take the spot kick, something we never practise because we never have had one before, and blasted over the top. BUT Town corner practise at training really showed with all three of our first goals coming straight from corners! First the keeper cleared off the line from a dangerous Alfie corner to see the ball hit Sam and bounce in the back of the net 1-0. Half time. Alfie's superb corners continued early in the second half when his goal bound corner was flicked in at the near post by the defender. 2-0. 2 minutes later, Alfie's corner was blasted at the keeper by Jake, to see the rebound struck home by Nathan for his first goal of the season 3-0. KM started to press as our lack of matches and training showed as our fitness ebbed. The KM striker ran through the Town defence to beat Dan in goal for the first time this year 3-1. Alfie came off for Joe to return onto the pitch and his pace showed immediately putting both Jake and then Sam clean through, only to see their shots well saved by the KM keeper who was having a blinder against the Hunt brothers. Some solid defending from Nathan, Liam and Callum halted all further attempts on the Town goal. With five minutes left on the clock, Callum picked the ball up in his own half and ran through two KM midfielders towards the KM goal. Jake had picked up some great space and pulled a defender with him, 10 yards out side of the area when the pass to Jake seemed the only option, Callum unleashed a typical shot, the ball moved through the air and the keeper could only flap as the ball sailed past him. 4-1. The game finished, thoroughly deserved win for the Town who despite the scoreline, wern't at their best. Sam came away with man of the match for some great battling against the big KM defence and his goal. Everyone played well, with Dan making some comfortable but well stopped saves, the back three who were stoic all game bar the one slip to conceed. Alfie and Joe in the middle were great and their corner delveries superb. Jake and Sam up front combined as well as usual with Jake unlucky to feature on the scoresheet. Well done boys! Back up to second in the league! |
