From the off this was a competitive game, with good tackling in midfield a highlight of the early exchanges. Neither side gave the other much space to attack, and for Town Jake Cogavin and Luke Selley were in the thick of the action. Midway through the half ’66 took the lead following some good work outside the Town box. To their credit Town responded soon after, a goal mouth melee landing at the feet of Rocco Morgan, who cooly shot into the corner of the goal. A popular scorer, his goal was well celebrated. With the game heading towards the break Newton ’66 went ahead again, a fierce shot into the Town goal.
In the second half it was more of the same, a battle in midfield, played fairly but with no quarter given. Newton ’66 scored further goals from good accurate shooting and one deflected strike. Yet again Newton Town attempted to get a reply, and good awareness from Luke Selley saw him take advantage of a rare slip in the Newton ’66 goal, and he fired home to end the scoring.
A good effort from all the players, of both sides, a lot of sweat and toil expelled.
Man of the Match: Rocco Morgan – A strong display from this popular member of the squad.
