The under 11 Red side travelled to newly promoted Ugborough hoping to continue with their start to the season.
We started with Dan in goal, Liam, Callum and Nathan across the back, Tim in the middle, and with Sam and Joe up front.
Both teams started brightly, but it was soon evident that our two strikers were being out-muscled and out-fought by the larger Ugborough midfield and defence. So a change was made after about 15 minutes, with an understandably disappointed Joe, being replaced by Alfie up front.
The highlight of the first half was Dan’s fantastic save one on one with the Ugborough striker who was played through by a great defence cutting pass.
Half time 0-0.
In the second half, Tim was replaced by Matt in the middle.
The second half started much as the first, with the Ugborough boys attacking well, but in general being thwarted by the Town defence.
A counter attack saw the home side take the lead; a well struck shot low into the corner gave Dan no chance. 1-0
Sam was replaced up front by Tim, and soon the changes rang true and some good interplay between the two town strikers saw us draw level. 1-1
The closing stages of the game saw the home team attack with numbers and only a good save from Dan, tipping onto the post, and a great block by Nathan on the line, saw the game close 1-1.
The Reds continue their fine start to the season with 7 points from a possible 12. A greatly improved display than this time last season where we had won 1 and lost 3 of our first 4 games.
Man of the match went to Nathan for a display that typifies his place in the squad. Dan came a close second for some great saves and distribution. |
