Fighting Spirit
By The Roving Reporter.

Newton Town U11 Reds entertained a WBB side who had only played 2 games so far.

Town started by far the brighter side and could have been ahead within the first 30 seconds after Jake poked at the goal, only to see his shot clawed back from the line by the WBB keeper.

The first half was scrappy from both teams, with WBB trying to attack in numbers, and Town counter attacking at every opportunity.

The First goal typifies how scrappy the play was. A corner from Joe bobbled in front of the goal and went in off Callum’s face! Half a goal each to Joe and Callum!

The first half finished 1-0, but the game could have been 4-4!

The second half started with WBB constantly attacking with Town struggling to clear their lines. A succession of 14 corners in the first 10 minutes of the second half looked ominous and before long one of them played off. A driven corner, hit Dan in the box and wrong footed Alfie in goal. 1-1.

With a last ten minutes which typified The Towns fighting spirit, we absorbed everything that WBB threw at us, and one counter attack saw Jake running free of all the defenders, and striking into the top corner past the outstretched hand of the WBB keeper.  2-1

A great result which makes it 3 wins from 3 at home and leaves us sitting 3rd in the division 2 table.

Man of the match went to Jake for some tireless running and a well taken goal.

Well done boys
