Despite the scoreline this was Towns best performance of the season, and for
parts of the match they looked a fair match for the more experienced
Kingsteignton team.
In the first half the visitors spent plenty of time in the Town half, but
for all of their possession and teritory it took nearly 10 minutes for the
first goal, as some strong defending from Alex Blackburn and great shot
stopping from Jack Hingston in the Town goal kept it at 0-0.
Eventually the Kingsteignton pressure told and they scored a couple of goals
in fairly quick succession, but Town came back into the game and were able
to mount a couple of attacks themselves with Ben Sharratt looking dangerous
upfront and latching on to a couple of long balls to force the opposition
keeper into a save or two.
Approaching half time and the lack of any Town substitutes began to take its
toll, with some tired looking players stranded in midfield and allowing
Kingsteignton to press forward in much greater numbers and score another 3
in the final 5 minutes of the half to make it 5-0 at the break.
After some rest and refreshment Town looked a bit brighter at the start of
the second half, and although Kingsteignton scored early in the half there
then followed a 10 minute passage of play where Town again matched their
opponents and started to put some attacking moves together although they
could not find a goal. Jamie Alford and Charlie Taylor never stopped running
and trying to break up play while Jack in goal continues to make save after
save.
Once again though the Town players began to tire as the half wore on, and in
the minal minutes the visitors again scored 3 quick goals to give the final
score a slightly lop-sided look at 9-0. However the positive for Town should
be that for maybe 25 minutes of this match they competed well and in that
time the overall score would have been 3-0. There are signs of improvement
already, and some improved fitness along with having substitutes available
will hopefully give the side the ability to compete throughout the whole
game.
Man of the match was awarded to Jack Hingston for his excellent goalkeeping,
although all credit to Alex Blackburn for yet another whole hearted display
in defense, while Ben Sharratt worked tirelessly to try and create attacking
opportunities. The side will look to improve again when they entertain local
rivals Buckland and Milber at Coach Road next Sunday
