From the whistle Town were on the attack, putting Waldon on the defensive. Kiara-Jade Robins has a shot go just wide of the goal as the reds of Newton Town make the early running. The tide was soon to turn as Waldon played the ball out to the wings, from one of these moves down the flanks a shot is fired in hard and low to the near post, just evading goalie Kian Gentry and crossing the line.
Town tried to respond through good passing from Luke Selley and Jake Cogavin. But Waldon struck again halfway through the half, a quick snapshot blasted home. But to the credit of all the players Town rolled their sleeves up and hit back before half-time. A surging run from Jake Cogavin, (skipping past two challenges), fires a shot across the Waldon goal, where goal predator Tyler Bidgood is waiting to tap home.
Half-time and its all to play for.
The second half is a close affair with both teams defending and then attacking. Ben Walton and Dominic Osborne keep the Waldon strikers busy, and Luke Selley makes several surging runs down the wing, on one occasion his centre just missing the on-rushing Kiara-Jade Robins.
Just as you felt an equaliser is on the cards, Waldon grab a goal through a well taken penalty, lifted high into the roof of the net, no chance for the lively Kian Gentry in goal. Yet again Town come back into the game. Another good midfield run from Jake Cogavin leads to a perfect pass into Tyler Bidgood, the striker intelligently lifts the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.
With Town now pushing hard, and sub Jaden Bond on the pitch harrying the Waldon defence, the final whistle blows and the game is over. A good battling performance, enjoyed by all.
